USB flash drive is the most used devices in the world because the price of it is very affordable making it everyone able to carry along with them all the time. As convenient as it is, there is a huge security risk for USB sticks which is very prone to virus or worm infection. An advanced computer user would know if the USB flash drive has been infected by virus or not with one look but a normal or novice user can’t tell the difference and they would be tricked into running the virus.

USB virus or worm spreads by creating an autorun.inf file and makes it to run the virus file from the USB. One of the known method to prevent the virus from creating an autorun.inf file is to create a folder that goes by the name of autorun.inf as well so that the virus cannot overwrite it. The folder must also has the attributes of system, read-only and hidden.

If you do not know how to create it, you can rely on USB Defender to easily create it for you and immunize your USB stick. All you need is insert the USB drive to your computer, run USB Defender, select the drive and click the Protect button. It takes a few seconds to create the read-only, system and hidden autorun.inf folder in the root of your USB drive. You can remove it by doing the same but click the Unprotect button.
