Record Audio in Windows with Sonarca Sound Recorder Free
Windows comes with a sound recorder that is very very basic and hardly contains any settings or options at all. The interface has a record button and a timer to show you how long has the recording been going. Then clicking the Stop Recording button will prompt you to save your recorded audio that is in .wmv format to any location on your hard drive. WMA might not be the best audio format because the compression is not as good as MP3.
If you want to record better sound and have slightly more options, you should give Sonarca Sound Recorder Free a try. It is also very easy to use but it has more options compared to Windows Sound Recorder. The free version of Sonarca Sound Recorder has some limitations but allows you to save your audio recordings into MP3 or WAV format. It is also possible to set the channel, bit resolution, sampling frequencies and volume. When you start recording, it is done on the fly without generating a temporary file on your hard drive to process it at a later time.
The detection of your microphone is automated and no configuration is required. As the title of the program says, this application is free and compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7.
