A screen saver is a moving picture or pattern that appears on your computer screen when you haven’t used the mouse or keyboard for a specified period of time. Screen savers were originally used to save older, monochromatic monitors from damage, but now they’re mainly a way to personalize your computer or enhance its security by offering password protection. Screen saver can be annoying as well if you want your screen to stay on for a little longer such as playing a video demonstration. It can be disabled either from Control Panel or simply right click on desktop and select Personalize. Then click on Screen Saver and select (None) from the drop down menu. You would have to do the same thing to re-enable screen saver again.
To save the trouble, you can just run a portable application called Keep Display On. It does not have any configuration, except a text showing “As long as this program is running, the screensaver will not start.” It does exactly what it says by hooking the Windows API and temporarily deactivates the screen saver. Keep Display On takes up merely 1MB from memory when it is running. We have tested it on Windows 7 and it worked perfectly.
