Kaspersky, one of the most famous antivirus company in the world has started beta testing next year’s 2011 version of their antivirus. The first thing that we noticed is Kaspersky seemed to create a single universal installer that enables you to either activate the Anti-Virus or Internet Security. For example, if you have a license key for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 and later upgraded to a Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, you do not need to uninstall the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011, download and install Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. The program allows you to easily switch to Internet Security when you have upgraded your license key.
As for further improvements on the protection, it comes with a new system monitor which provides monitoring of applications activity in the system and provides detailed information to other protection components. Safe Surf and Geo Filter module has been added to enhanced the Internet security. Safe Surf is a link scanner which blocks access to insecure websites, which allows you staying in the safe Internet zone. As for Geo Filter, it helps you to block access to websites which belong to regional domains with high risk of infection. It can now finally auto scan your computer when your computer is idle and not in used.
Do note that both Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 are still in very early stages of BETA testing and it not meant for sale or usage yet. BETA software are unstable and normally contain bugs and known issues that are yet to be fixed. One example is the Upgrade tab which is supposed to let you switch to KIS2011 is incomplete and not working yet.

Norton Internet Security 2010 is a complete security application by Symantec which falls between Norton Antivirus and Norton 360. It includes a firewall that effectively protects against hackers that is not found in the Norton Antivirus but it does not have the backup and PC optimization that is found in Norton 360. Norton Internet Security 2010 cost $69.99 to use up to 3PCs with a 1 year subscription. To download a normal 30 day trial from Symantec’s website, you have to sign up for the opt-out trial which requires you to enter your credit card information and auto charges your credit card if you do not cancel your opt-out trial within 30 days.
If you do not have a credit card or afraid of forgetting to cancel the opt-out trial in time but you want to download and install Norton Internet Security 2010 and test it out, here is how you can do it. All you need to do is just download the full NIS2010 setup installer at the end of this post and install as normal. The installation takes less than a minute to complete.
Instead of getting the normal 30 days trial, you will get an additional 30 days making it a total of 60 days subscription. Make sure you run LiveUpdate after installation because the virus definition and program is 138 days out of date. Norton product key is not required to activate the 60 days subscription.

One of the best way to detect file corruption is by monitoring the file for changes. One of such tool that can do this is FileTrack. FileTrack is an open source tool which can monitor a single file for any changes and it notifies you with a popup. It does not have all those advanced notification features such as emailing and it monitors only one file at a time.
FileTrack is made to monitor for file changes when a project or file is shared among a few members. They may have accidentally or intentionally modified the file and the best way is to get notified and then compares it with another local copy that you have backed up somewhere on your hard drive.
To use FileTrack, click on the middle button with the traffic light and select the file that you want to monitor for changes, then click the Start Monitoring button. When you minimize the program, it goes to the system tray so it is non-obtrusive to your desktop or the way you work.

Microsoft has released a beta software called Microsoft Fix it Center where it contains troubleshooters that help detect issues on target PCs and solve them on demand or proactively before you even know they exist.
After installation, when ran, Microsoft Fix It Center will automatically gather your computer’s information and then shows you the troubleshooters to install. After finished downloading, the main Fix It Center will open showing you a list of items which you can check for any problems and offers you automated way of fixing it. If you think you are having problems on any of the items listed, simply click on the Run button which will run the problem detection.
This Microsoft Fix It Center software is a convenient and easy to use tool that aims to help users that doesn’t know much about computers to try to fix the problem themselves before asking for help. The detail button provide further explanation of what each item meant and also the last run date. Microsoft Fix It Center is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 2003 and 2008 32 bit. As for 64-bit, currently it only supports Windows XP Pro SP2.

Whenever you try accessing a website using Firefox and get the error Server Not Found, it advices you to check the address for typing error, check your computer’s network and make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web if you have firewall or proxy. The advices given don’t really help much and is quite useless. Thanks to ErrorZilla Plus extension, you can improve the Server Not Found page by adding extra functions to help you troubleshoot and determine what is the cause of the problem.
