Easily Install and Activate DreamScene in Windows 7

DreamScene comes with Windows Vista Ultimate which allows users to play videos are background wallpapers. However when it comes to Windows 7, DreamScene has been replaced with Desktop Slideshow feature which produces slideshow background wallpapers, but does not support videos. There has been hacks on how to enable DreamScene on Windows 7 and this is probably the easiest method ever as it simply requires only 1 click. Before using DreamScene, you must have Aero enabled and also it can only support WMV and MPG as wallpaper background.

Run the portable DreamScene activator and click Enable DreamScene. The tool will first copy DreamScene.dll to System32 folder in Windows and DreamScene.dll.mui to Windows\System32\en-US. Then it will add the required registry keys & values and restart explorer. After the explorer has restarted, the user will be able to use DreamScene.

To set a wmv or mpg video as wallpaper background, simply right click on the file and select “Set as Desktop Background”. The video will instantly being played and looped at desktop. You can pause the video by right clicking on desktop and select Pause DreamScene. DreamScene might not be of much to end users but is certainly useful for demos. To disable or uninstall DreamScene from Windows 7, run the activator tool and select Disable DreamScene.

Show Control Panel in My Computer for Windows 7

Control Panel is the most important area for Windows because that is where you can access all the shortcuts for Windows configurations. Although not really all of the system settings because some are undocumented hidden settings but most of the main configurations. One easy way to make sure that novice Windows users are able to access Control Panel is by placing a shortcut in My Computer. In Windows XP, showing Control Panel in My Computer is as easy as checking a box in Folder Options. However when it comes to Windows 7, it is no longer found in Folder Options.

1. Click the Windows 7 Start Menu orb button and type regedit in the Search programs and files bar.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

3. Right click on the NameSpace folder at the left pane, select New > Key

4. You can use either of the names below as the key name for the newly created key. In Windows 7, there are 2 types of view for Control Panel
Icon View: {21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
Category View: {26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}

Try opening My Computer and you will see an additional Other category with Control Panel shortcut. This registry tweak takes effect instantly without rebooting Windows 7.

Fix for Unable to Access Windows Shared Folders

Sharing folders via network is a huge convenience in transferring files as well as for backing up purposes. Sharing a folder in Windows XP is very easy by right clicking on the folder and select Sharing and Security. As for Windows 7, you will need to select Share with > Specific people and select the user account. Then when accessing from a different computer, you will need to login with the username and password. However you may experience problems in accessing a shared folder on a network but you are able to ping the computer.

COMPUTER is not available. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access. The network path was not found.

Windows cannot access \\share. Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Error code: 0×80070035 The network path was not found.

If you got any of the error messages above when trying to access a shared folder on a network but can ping the computer, then the first thing you should check is if the “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks” service is enabled for the network adapter. Hit WIN+R and type ncpa.cpl and hit Enter. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. At the Networking tab, make sure that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is checked.
