How to Enable or Disable Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Preview
March 25, 2010 | Filed under Windows 7;
We have covered many tips on how to customize the new taskbar thumbnail preview that is on Windows 7. You can make the thumbnail preview smaller or bigger, specifically enabling or disabling the thumbnail preview feature for different web browsers but we still haven’t shown you how to totally turn off the taskbar thumbnail preview feature in Windows 7.
By default the Taskbar Thumbnail preview feature is enabled but if for some reason you want to turn it off without disabling the Aero, then here is how you can disable it using the Group Policy Editor. Click the Start button and type gpedit.msc at the Search programs and files bar and hit enter. Go to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar, then look for the “Turn off taskbar thumbnails” at the right pane. Double click on it and Not Configured is selected. If Enabled is selected, then the taskbar thumbnails will be turned off. Disabled to turn it back on.
Some versions of Windows 7 build will show that it is “supported on: Windows Vista only” and turn off taskbar thumbnails won’t work in Windows 7.
Unfortunately the only way to disable taskbar thumbnail if you are experiencing such problem is to disable Windows Aero. You can disable Windows 7 Aero by right clicking the desktop and select personalize. Simply select the Windows 7 Basic theme will disable Aero.
