Windows DreamScene is a utility that allows videos and other optimized animations to be used as desktop wallpapers. It is one of the Windows Ultimate Extras. When a full-screen program is run, such as a game or any window that is maximized, the video will automatically stop since the video will not be seen and will use less GPU and CPU. In Windows 7, Vista’s successor, DreamScene has been replaced by a “Desktop Slideshow” feature which produces slideshow background wallpapers, but does not support videos. The Windows Vista DreamScene DLL can be registered on Windows 7 to make it work, as hacks circulating on the internet describe. One of the bugs related to this hack is that desktop icon labels turn transparent, however, disabling drop shadows for icons fixes this permanently.

There are other methods in fixing the icon text turning transparent problem. In fact there is two of them.

Method 1 to fix DreamScene transparent icon text problem

1. Right click at Desktop and select Personalize.
2. Click on Windows 7 at Aero Themes. The desktop background will be reset to default wallpaper.
3. Set the video clip as DreamScene motion desktop background again. The desktop icons text labal will remain visible in white color font.

Method 2 to fix DreamScene transparent icon text problem

1. Right click at Desktop and select Personalize.
2. Click on Desktop Background at the bottom left. Solid Colors picture location doesn’t have this so make sure you change it to other options such as Windows Desktop Backgrounds to have that Fill option.
3. Click on Save changes button. The desktop background will be reset to default wallpaper.
4. Set the video clip as DreamScene motion desktop background again.

Both method actually does the same thing, so just follow one example will do. Enjoy the DreamScene on Windows 7!

Tried this fix. Does not work. When changing desktop back to the DreamScene movie, icons return to invisible or only shadows visible.

    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

2nd method is working, select 1st folder from falling menu, save, and activate your video file for desktop with normal text under icons!
