Windows 7 is the latest Microsoft operating system which many professionals and experts agree that it is so far the best Windows operating system. It is faster, more secured and stable compared to the older version of Windows such as 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista. However Windows 7 seemed to be a major upgrade that changed a lot and this makes a lot of third party software incompatible with the new Windows.

Fortunately Microsoft has came up with a Windows 7 Compatibility Center where you can search for the program name and even hardware to see if it is compatible with Windows 7 or not. It may be troublesome for some IT professionals to search from the website if they don’t have an active internet connection at that time but requires an immediate answer.

Windows 7 compatibility list

Microsoft has created an application list into an excel file that currently has 9619 software which have met Windows 7 Logo Program testing requirements for compatibility with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7. This is more like an offline compatible center for Windows 7 applications which can be carried with the IT Professionals anywhere.

At the first tab it contains release notes explaining each points in detail, for example, Compatible – Windows 7 Logo means this product met Microsoft’s testing requirements for compatibility with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7, Free update required means the software publisher offers a free upgrade to a newer version which is compatible with Windows 7, Paid update required means that the user must pay a fee to get the update, Future compatibility means that the publisher stated that they will have a version in future that supports Windows 7, Not compatible means it doesn’t run on Windows 7 and finally Information coming soon means that Microsoft currently doesn’t have confirmation if it support Windows 7 or not.
