Windows 7 is the latest operating system by Microsoft. It has gotten many praises but for corporate users, there is one big concern which is whether the current application has any compatibility issues or not. If you have a MSI installer package that cannot be installed on Windows 7 because it is built on an older version and for some reason the programmer is not available to update it, you can try AOK4SMB.

Microsoft and ChangeBASE are working together to offer you a simple online solution that assesses and automatically remedy applications for Windows 7 compatibility at the press of a button. This solution uses a subset of the full AOK tool from ChangeBASE, a market leader in automated application compatibility and remediation software. AOK4SMB is an application compatibility tool developed to help small and midsize businesses to get their applications ready for Windows 7.

All you need to do is create a free account and then upload your MSI package to the server which will be analyzed automatically. After a few minutes, a report will be emailed to you and if there is an automated fix available, AOK4SMB will supply a fix for your MSI package as a transform file. The fix will come in a zip file with a .cmd , .mst and .cab file. Just put all of the 3 files together with your MSI file and run the .cmd file which will transform it and apply the Windows 7 compatibility fix. This service will be free until end of July 2010.

Facebook is the most active social website on the Internet today and when something that is free gets too famous, that is where the internet threats are going to strike. Google is well known for its search engine and also its free email service Gmail but they have many more and one of it that not many people know about is Google Web History. Basically Google Web History lets you view and search across the full text of the pages you’ve visited, including Google searches, web pages, images, videos and news stories. You can also manage your web activity and remove items from your web history at any time.

If you have a Gmail account, you can login to Google Web History website with the same credentials and enable the service. Once enabled and you are logged in to Google, any searches performed from Google search engine will be recorded and saved to your Google Web History. If you have a Google Toolbar installed, we are not sure to say if it is better or worse because EVERY website you visited and EVERY search you performed will be saved into your Google Web History account. Some people would say that it is a privacy intrusion but some would say that it is useful since they can always track what great websites they have visited but forgotten.

Google Web History

To clear all the saved searches and visited links, you can click on the Remove Items link at the right sidebar, and then click the Clear Entire Web History. You can pause the Web History recordings by clicking the Pause link at the sidebar. If you want to disable and remove the Google Web History service, click My Account at the top right and click the Edit link at My Products. At the delete a product, click on Remove Web History permanently.

Basically the usefulness of this service very much depends on the user. It can be a very useful online web history where you can refer back to the links that you have visited anywhere on any computer but it will be bad if someone logged in to your account illegally and checked what you have searched or sites that you normally visit.

Facebook is currently the most used social website in the world. If you lost contact with a few good friends you known during high school, chances are they will end up in Facebook and you can get in touch with them from there. However Facebook being the most active social website, search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing tends to crawl and index your facebook profile and your name is now searchable in search engines. Signing up Facebook does have it pros such as getting in touch with old friends but it can be a privacy intrusion.

Imagine this situation, a stalker wants to get to know more about you so they search for your name in Google. Voila they found your Facebook account and surely there are a lot of private information which are protected by default. They can sign up a new Facebook account and try to trick you into accepting them as your friend using social engineering methods.

Fortunately there is a setting in Facebook where it can protect your privacy by stopping your Facebook profile from showing in search engine without deleting your Facebook account. Login to your Facebook account, click on Account and select Privacy Settings. Click on Search and uncheck the Allow button for Public Search Results.

Browize Auto Resizes Web Browser Window

A lot of websites in the older days have a description at the footer or bottom of the page that says “Best viewed at 800×600″ or something similar. Back then 800 x 600 screen resolutions are mostly used as it is very common and only the newer monitors are able to support up to 1024×768. Modern monitor and a good graphics card nowadays can go up to as far as 1920 x 1200 which gives a lot of space on the screen.

However for some website that still uses the fluid layout which auto resizes the page according to the browser, sometimes the whole web page gets messed up and the text and images are all over the place. Fluid layouts are good to use but depending on how complicated the web page is. Fortunately the way to fix the layout is to resize your web browser to the recommended pixels.

One easy way to auto resize your web browser window without using any software, plugin or adding is by going to browize website and select the defined measurement or your own custom width and height. Currently it has a pre-set size of 480 x 320, 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1600 x 1200, 1920 x 1200 and a custom width x height. The list should support all screen resolutions and it works on Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer and Opera. Google Chrome is not yet supported.

Check Who Removed You From Facebook Friends Connection

April 5, 2010 by

Keeping track and maintaining your friend lists in Facebook is not going to be easy if you have few hundreds or probably few thousands. When you have so many so called friends, sometimes people will just remove you from their connection list and you won’t even know. Facebook does not notify you when someone has removed you from their friend list. Although it is still fair because when a friend has removed you from their list, they can no longer see your information and will only see the sentence that says “User only shares some of her profile information with everyone.”

It is still nice to know who has removed you from their list. One of the way to know who has removed you from their friend list connection is by using a Greasemonkey script called Facebook Friends Checker. You will first need to install the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox and then install the Facebook Friends Checker userscript. What this script does is it checks all your friend list every 2 hours and then records it down.

If the script finds that a friend is not in the list, Facebook Friends Checker will notify you that the user is no longer friends with you and there is a link to the profile. This script does not work in real time and it is probable that it could miss out some friends who removed you from their list. You can however change the interval to check for removed friends to 1 hour.

The Facebook Friends Checker script was last updated on 10 February 2010 which contains fixes for the new Facebook redesign.

Add Dislike Button to Facebook with FBDislike Extension for Firefox and Chrome

Whenever people share their photo albums online publicly in Facebook, there is a Like button for people to express that this photo is nice and they liked it. Obviously the more people that clicks the Like button, the more popular it gets. However Facebook development team has been a little bias not to include a Dislike button. The simple reason is Facebook is meant to social and not make enemies, so if you see something that you like, go ahead and click the Like button or else move on.

To be on the fair side, 3 person by the name of Thomas Moquet, David DJIAN and Pascal Filipovicz has created a Firefox and Chrome extension that adds a Dislike button next to the Like button. When you click the Dislike button, the extension sends the dislike information to their server’s database together with the id of item, id and username of the user who dislike the item. If the server is down, (currently it has been down for a few days already because of server problem), the Facebook Dislike feature will not work and will not be seen as well.

Facebook Dislike button

There are some scam or spam going on for Facebook Dislike button but this Firefox and Chrome extension is absolutely safe and does not contains any virus or trojan.
