Microsoft Office 2010 RTM has been released and can be downloaded from TechNet or MSDN account. However if you try to install by running the setup file en_office_professional_plus_2010_x86_515486.exe, you will encounter a setup errors window with the following message:

Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s): Microsoft Office 2010 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of Microsoft Office 2010. You must first uninstall any prerelease versions of Microsoft Office 2010 products and associated technologies. Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup.

Microsoft Office 2010 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of Microsoft Office 2010

This is caused by having a BETA version of Microsoft Office 2010 on your computer and the RTM version of Office 2010 does not support direct upgrading from BETA to RTM. What you need to solve this problem is by simply uninstalling the old beta version of Office 2010 from your computer, then only install the RTM version of Office 2010.

Follow the simple steps below on how to uninstall Microsoft Office 2010 Beta:

1. Click the Windows 7 Orb button and go to Control Panel.
2. Click Uninstall a Program.
3. Select Microsoft Office Professional 2010 from the list and click the Uninstall button
4. Click Yes when asked to confirm the uninstallation.
5. Restart your computer when uninstallation has finished.
6. When computer has been restarted, run Microsoft Office 2010 RTM setup installer

How to Minimize Microsoft Outlook 2010 to System Tray

Microsoft Outlook is normally used in companies and they keep it open during work hours so that new emails will be constantly being downloaded at a defined interval. Since Outlook by default puts itself in system tray and also at taskbar, it might be taking up unnecessary space at the taskbar. It doesn’t make much sense to have both place to access Outlook.

If you want Outlook to only minimize to system tray but not the taskbar, Outlook has a built-in feature to do that. Simply right click on the Outlook system tray icon and select on Hide When Minimized which should put a checkmark beside it. Now when you minimize Outlook, it will be minimized to tray without showing in taskbar. Now you can have a neater taskbar without unnecessary software taking up on the space.

There is no need to worry if you will be missing any new emails because when a new email is received, there will be a new mail desktop alert popup to inform you about it. By default the option Show New Mail Desktop Alert is enabled so you might want to check in case you have accidentally disabled it.

Unblock “Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments”

Microsoft Outlook is one of the most powerful email client that has a lot of features that a normal user would probably never use. Because email is most used by people in the world, it is also one of the method how virus spreads. Microsoft has always been accused of creating software that is not secured so they have implemented a default security where it blocks all dangerous attachments. When you received an email with a dangerous attachment, you will see a message that says “Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: file.exe.”

Unfortunately Microsoft Office development team did not made it easy to unblock the blocked attachment from Outlook itself and you will have to navigate to the registry and add the extensions that you do not want Outlook to block at Level1Remove. The easier way to avoid messing with the Windows registry and yet able to unblock the blocked attachments in Outlook is by using Outlook Attachment Enabler.

Outlook Attachment Enabler controls the file types of attachments that Outlook has determined to be unsafe for opening. After installation, just run OAE, go to the Display Blocked Extensions and select the extensions you want to unblock from the list and click the Mark as safe. The changes takes effect immediately. If you cannot find the extension, you can add the extension in the box and click the Add button. We have tested it in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and it works like charm.

After installing MSXML 6.0 SP1, you should be able to install Office 2010 on XP SP2 without problems but we do not guarantee that all the Office 2010 programs will work properly since it is not made to run on XP SP2 or lower.
