Add Weather Forecast and Updates in Windows 7 Taskbar

March 28, 2010 | Filed under Software, Windows 7

Microsoft has got it right this time by improving the Windows 7 taskbar. It can do so much and yet allow third party software to interact with it. One of a great feature is where you can integrate weather updates and forecast to the taskbar. This is useful so you can keep track of the weather rather than manually going to a weather website and always keying in the location that you want to check.

WeatherBar is a free and portable software that can show the weather in icon at taskbar and also provide you with the readings for the next 3 days. By default Weatherbar auto updates the data every 1 minute but that can be changed at the Settings and you can also set to display the readings in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

There are a few ways that WeatherBar can show the latest weather forecast. First is you open the program and it shows a user interface with nice icons and readings. When you minimize it to taskbar, the icon changes according to the weather and finally right clicking on the Weatherbar icon at taskbar shows a thumbnail preview of 4 days weather readings. There is a known bug when you pin WeatherBar to the taskbar, it uses the default icon and it doesn’t change accordingly. A fix is in the works and will be released soon.
